Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov was born in Kholmogory in 1711. He was the son of a sailor. He studied in Zakonospasskaya School. In 1734 [actually 1736] he entered the Imperial Academy, and in 1736 was sent to Germany as a student; then he became Professor of Chemistry in St. Petersburg; in 1751 [actually 1745] he was made Member of the Academy, and in 1760 appointed Director of the Academical Gymnasium and of the University He died in 1765.
