Fraudulent presidential elections on July 6 bring PRI candidate Carlos Solinas de Gortari to power. Opposition candidate Cuauhtemoc Cardeans is ahead in polling when vote-counting computers "suddenly crash". Three days later Salinas is declared the winner.
