Perurima

A movement led by the cacique Yaguacaporo in Paraguay between 1635 and 1637 "ordained" native bishops and priests with a view to forging a Guarani confederacy against the jesuits. Guarani folklore produced the figure of Perurima, a native who symbolized protest against the missionary tutelage of the reductions.
