Reggaeton
Reggae and calypso have a long history in Panama and along the Caribbean coasts of Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua among English-speaking and bilingual Afro-Caribbean communities. In Panama, Spanish Reggae begins around 1977 with Nando Boom, and in the early 1990s El General and other performers put Spanish lyrics to quicker dancehall beats. The music eventually makes its way to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, where reggaeton proper begins and eventually becomes globally popular.
