The New Ballad

The Nueva Trova movement of Cuban songwriters influences Latin American music for the next decade. Mostly performed with acoustic guitars and radical lyrics, the most famous exponent is Silvio Rodriguez, alongside other luminaries like Pablo Milanes. In Chile, the Nueva Cancion movement begins around the same time, led by Victor Jara, Violeta Parra, and both movements heavily influence each other and other musicians throughout the continent.
